Why You Need a Hydrating Face Mask in Your Regimen

When it comes to products that provide TLC for the skin, face masks are right at the top of the list.

Not only are they great for providing luxurious ‘me time’, the best hydrating masks will also provide long-term benefits and noticeable skin improvements to leave you looking radiant and refreshed.

With the market saturated by all sorts of hydrating night masks promising ultimate skin moisturisation, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. You may even have had a bad experience with masks in the past, especially if you are prone to breakouts. How can you tell the good from the bad? How will you know whether a mask is suited to your skin type?

Finding the best hydrating night cream ultimately depends on the formulation. Some products include ingredients that might feel or smell good but which are not beneficial for the skin, such as harsh scents or silicones. Application type also makes a difference. Masks that are designed to remain on the skin are often gentler than masks that must be washed off.

Once you’ve found the best hydrating face masks, however, you’ll agree that there’s no substitute for the skin boost they provide. Read on to discover what sets the best face masks apart from the rest and why you need to include one in your regimen.

Introducing Date Night Leave-On Hydrating Mask

We are thrilled to announce the latest addition to the Liberty Belle Rx range: Date Night, our luxurious leave-on hydrating mask!

Meticulously formulated to be suitable for all skin types, Date Night strengthens the skin barrier while providing up to 72 hours of deep and surface hydration. One of our richest formulas yet, this mask is packed with ceramides, skin-identical lipids, and papaya extract to give your skin a powerful hydrating and moisturising boost.

With a myriad of short and long-term benefits, you can enjoy radiant, baby-soft skin the instant you wake up as well as continued improvement from the promotion of skin cell turnover to address the signs of ageing. Plump, dewy skin is just a date night away!

How do I use Date Night in my regimen?

Date Night has been formulated to work with all products in the Liberty Belle Rx range. No need to worry about whether you need to skip your Retinol or exfoliator when you’re doing a face mask – Date Night simply slots into your regimen whenever you need it.

We recommend applying Date Night in the evening as the final step in your regimen, but before any face oil. Apply liberally to the face, neck, and decolletage. The cream is very rich and hydrating, so give it a minute or two to absorb. Once absorbed, you’re done! Date Night will work its magic while you sleep.

Face masks are best used intermittently to give the skin a boost when it needs it. How often you use Date Night is up to you. Very dry skin types can use it nightly if desired, while others will find that once every three days, or once a week as a special treat, suits them better.

For on-demand hydration, Date Night can also be used as a 30-minute mask to give you a quick radiance boost. Apply to freshly cleansed skin, then remove with water once 30 minutes have passed. This can be a lifesaver if you come home feeling worn out after a long day at work and need to get ready for a special event later in the evening.

If you have a special occasion coming up, we recommend using Date Night the evening before for an additional glow-up.

What’s the difference between a leave-on mask and a temporary mask?

When we think of face masks, images of bubble baths, red wine, and sheet face masks come to mind. Sheet masks have become synonymous with self-care, but for a number of reasons we have found that leave-on masks are superior for the promotion of skin health and hydration.

Sheet masks and other temporary masks are masks that are only designed to stay on the skin for a certain amount of time, while leave-on masks are safe to remain on the skin, where they are absorbed.

We chose to make Date Night a leave-on mask because we wanted to maximise the delivery of actives to the skin for both long and short-term improvement. It also allowed us to formulate a product that was gentle on the skin and suitable for diverse skin types.

If you’re used to using sheet masks, you might feel a little suspicious about using a leave-on mask. Will it be too rich? Can I really go to bed with it on?

We can confirm – after rigorous testing from eager volunteers! – that Date Night passes the pillow test. As a rich formulation, it does take a little longer to absorb than other products in the range, but once your skin has drunk it all in, it will be completely dry to the touch. No stickiness, no residue on your pillow, just soft, radiant skin when you wake up.

What’s the difference between a leave-on deep hydration mask and a moisturiser?

Since leave-on hydrating masks are applied in the same way moisturisers are, you might find yourself wondering what the difference is.

While moisturisers are a skincare staple, leave-on hydrating face masks should be used occasionally as needed. Because they are so rich and so full of beneficial actives, the improvements they offer are substantial, making face masks a must for anyone who is serious about skincare.

Simply put, moisturisers are for an everyday skin hydration and protection, while face masks are richer formulations that should be used sparingly for an additional boost.

The two can (and should) be used together according to the guide detailed above. When using Date Night as a hydrating night mask, apply it right on top of your moisturiser at the end of your regimen, but before face oil

What sets Date Night apart from other hydrating masks?

In a word: ingredients. The Liberty Belle Rx difference lies in our luxe formulations and our commitment to using the best and least-irritating ingredients that provide tangible skin benefits.

Read on to discover the hero ingredients in Date Night and how they work to improve your skin.

Ceramides and Skin-Identical Lipids

Ceramides are a type of lipid that are found naturally in the skin. They work to form a protective, water-proofing barrier in the skin’s outer layers. As we age, ceramide production decreases, which can lead to dry skin and wrinkles.

Topically applied ceramides are able to penetrate the epidermis very easily because they are structurally identical to the lipids already present there. We use a mixture of ceramides in Date Night that mimic the structure of ceramides in the skin to reinforce the natural lipid barrier and improve the skin’s ability to maintain moisture. This is ideal for dry and sensitive skin types that often have barrier problems, as well as oily skin types that need help regulating sebum production.

Papaya Extract

Papaya Extract is a wonder product that helps stabilise oily skin while working as an exfoliant in dry areas. It can reduce trans-epidermal water loss and optimise hydration from other ingredients. Containing naturally occurring Vitamin A and C, it also promotes skin cell turnover and provides antioxidant protection to fight the signs of premature ageing.

Hyaluronic Acid

A staple in any good hydrating formula, Hyaluronic Acid is a substance found naturally in the skin that attracts and retains moisture, holding up to 1000x its weight in water. Topical use of HA helps rehydrate the skin, restore suppleness, and address the signs of ageing.

Hydration Saccharide

A naturally-sourced active from a sugar plant, Hydration Saccharide provides slow-release hydration for up to 72 hours.

Supporting ingredients

Other key hero ingredients for skin moisturisation and anti-ageing benefits in Date Night include Squalane (lightweight and soothing), Acai Sterols (antioxidant-rich), Panthenol (for hydration and skin barrier protection), Vitamin E (for moisturisation and free radical protection), Apricot Kernel and Avocado Oil (to soothe and protect) plus Muru Muru and Shorea Butters (for deep moisturistion).

Don’t take our word for it – try this ultra-luxe formula for yourself and you’ll feel the difference!

What skin types can use Date Night?

Date Night has been formulated to suit all skin types, including sensitive skin. However, your skin type might affect when and how often you should use it. Face masks deliver large quantities of active ingredients to the skin, and should be used according to your needs.

Skin types are generally divided into dry, oily, normal, combination, and sensitive. Note that this does not include dehydrated skin, as this is considered a skin condition rather than a skin type. Dehydration is characterised by a lack of water in the epidermis. Any skin type can experience dehydration.

Date Night is richly hydrating to help improve dehydrated skin, with Hyaluronic Acid and the Hydration Saccharide providing rich and long-lasting effects.

Dehydration is often worse in winter, as spending time indoors with circulated air and heating systems tends to lead to trans-epidermal water loss. Pay attention to your skin, and when you notice dehydration, take that as your cue to schedule a date night!

For additional help, find your skin type below for a short guide on how to get the best results from your face mask.

Face masks for dry skin

For dry skin types, Date Night is the best hydrating night cream you could ask for.

Dry skin is characterised by a lack of natural oils in the skin, so the rich ceramides and skin-identical lipids in Date Night can give your skin a much-needed boost while also strengthening the skin barrier to prevent moisture loss. At the same time, hydrating actives work to tackle any dehydration that might be compounding your skin dryness.

Because Date Night provides so many benefits to dry skin, we recommend using it as a night mask as often as you feel you need it. Applying Date Night each evening is a fantastic way to lock in moisture and hydration so you can start each day with dewy skin.

Face masks for oily skin

Those with oily skin may shy away from face masks, believing that such products will cause breakouts or make their congestion worse. While this is true of some old-fashioned masks, the carefully curated selection of skin-identical lipids in Date Night means that this mask is suitable for oily skin, and can even help regulate sebum production.

The trick to using masks with oily skin is not to overdo it. Try using Date Night once a week, increasing up to once every three days depending on your skin’s needs.

Face masks for normal skin

Neither too oily nor too dry, normal skin benefits from gentle yet effective products that provide a boost without throwing off the skin’s natural balance. Being gentle yet powerful, Date Night is a fantastic option for normal skin types that may find other acid-based masks too harsh for them. We recommend using Date Night once every three days, or as needed.

Normal skin types who experience hormone fluctuations leading to breakouts will particularly benefit from a hydrating boost to help keep the skin looking healthy and radiant.

Face masks for combination skin

Combination skin is characterised by oiliness or congestion as well as dryness caused by dehydration. If you’re frustrated by your skin feeling oily and dry, Date Night can make a wonderful addition to your regimen. The combination of hydrating ingredients plus skin-identical lipids can balance and protect the skin while providing deep, rich moisturisation to leave your skin feeling soft and looking radiant.

Use Date Night once every three days, or as needed.

Face masks for sensitive skin

Sensitive skin describes skin that is more reactive than the norm. If you identify as having sensitive skin, Date Night will be an ideal option for a face mask, as it will help improve the delicate skin barrier and provide additional moisture while calming any inflammation.

Always patch test a new product on your inner forearm before applying it on your face. Once you have confirmed there is no reaction, apply Date Night once per week, increasing to once every three days, or as necessary.
