Dull & Lacklustre Skin
Dull skin refers to skin that lacks radiance due to a build-up of dead skin cells on the epidermis. Your skin can lose its natural glow due to a variety of factors, including dryness, dehydration, lifestyle, diet, stress, climate, damaged cells, or slow cell turnover.
Dull skin can be managed using active skincare, regular in-clinic treatments, or a combination of the two. We can help you put together an active skincare plan. Talk to one of our Dermal Clinicians to find out how different skin problems on and around the face can be treated at Liberty Belle.
In-clinic treatment options that can brighten, smooth, and rejuvenate dull or lacklustre skin include:
Acne is a common, chronic disorder that occurs when pores become blocked with oil and dead skin cells, creating an environment in which bacteria can flourish. When blocked pores become infected, the result can be whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, papules, or cysts.
Acne affects men and women alike. It is most prevalent in adolescents and young adults, but it can arise in children and adults of any age.
Some common risk factors for acne include:
- Familial tendency
- Innate immune activation
- Distension and occlusion of the hair follicles
- Polycystic ovary syndrome
- Drugs (steroids, hormones, anticonvulsants, epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors, and others)
- Application of occlusive cosmetics
- High environmental humidity
- Diet high in dairy products or high glycemic foods.
Acne is a common type of skin concern our clients present with. It is often confined to the face, but it may involve the neck, chest, and back.
The severity of acne symptoms and different skin conditions will determine how you should manage your skin. More severe forms of acne require medical intervention. Skincare and in-clinic treatments can help with maintenance, but you will need to ask your GP or dermatologist about medical treatment options. Possible medical treatments might include a course of antibiotics or a prescription-grade topical.
Maintenance Options (for non-severe acne):
Scars form when the top layers of the skin suffer injury and the body forms new collagen fibers to mend the damage. Acne can leave many individuals with visible scarring in different forms, including:
- Superficial scarring
- Deep depressions
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (darker pigmented spots)
- Post-inflammatory erythema (red marks)
Various modalities and multiple treatments are often required to target acne scarring in all its forms. We recommend a skin consultation so we can design a treatment plan specific to your severity and different type of skin concerns.
Lines and Wrinkles
Lines and wrinkles develop naturally as part of the ageing process. They may be static or visible only upon expression. Other signs of ageing generally accompany their formation, such as skin laxity and loss of volume.
A number of factors can exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles, including:
- Poor hydration
- Sun damage
- Habitual facial expressions
We find that fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, or crow’s feet, are often of particular concern to our patients, with some reporting that people comment they look tired or even sad when they have had a refreshing night’s sleep.
We offer a number of treatments that can help minimise the appearance of wrinkles, help prevent the formation of new wrinkles, or achieve general facial rejuvenation. We generally recommend that patients use a tailored skincare plan in conjunction with in-clinic treatments to maintain overall skin health.
Lip enhancement treatments are commonly used to rejuvenate more mature lips that have lost volume over time, become thinner, or accumulated fine lines around the mouth.
They are also sought by those wanting to enhance the natural shape, size, and structure of their lips. Whether you want to restore lost fullness or give yourself the lips you’ve always wanted, dermal fillers can help. They may be used to restore volume, refine, lift, or plump the lips, as well as redefine the shape of the lip or lip line.
Anti-wrinkle injections placed carefully around the mouth area can also subtly enhance the lip by relaxing the muscles that tense the mouth. This imparts a softer, slightly plumper appearance.
Anti-wrinkle injections around the mouth can also minimise a 'gummy smile', where an excessive amount of gum is visible above the top teeth when smiling.
Injections of dermal fillers may be used to enhance and refine the natural shape of the lips, reduce fine lines, and restore lip volume that has been lost thanks to the ageing process.
At Liberty Belle Skin Centre, we like to take a conservative approach to lip treatments to ensure our clients walk away with natural-looking results. Different products can be used in the lips to achieve specific results. Every lip enhancement treatment is customised, and you will receive a thorough face-to-face consultation prior to your treatment. During this consultation, we will discuss your concerns and desired outcomes in order to formulate a suitable treatment plan. Plans can be tailored to all different skin conditions and colouring.
